transfuture

about

transfuture isn’t an if statement: it’s a when. When transphobia stops, when it's no longer something those in the trans community must consider: what will the world look like? Who will you be?

With a focus on euphoria and joy, transfuture invites your visions—and not just the visions of a future handled with the gloves of reality (a non-fiction vision, if you will) but visions of a past & present, one where we are not just accepted but celebrated; visions within the genres of fiction, such as high fantasy or sci-fi; visions performed through poetry, collages, video essays; anything that can describe a joy which comes from building your trans body/heart/mind/soul. This is not an exhaustive list—rather, it’s the beginning of that when.

In simple terms, transfuture is an euphoric community submission-based project. Accepting a wide range of “visions”, from fiction, creative non-fiction, prose and poetry, literary, visual, sensory and multi-modal forms, and the wonderful world of genres and genre-bending, transfuture invites you to create a vision: one where we’re not just surviving, where transphobia is not just gone, but one where we are cared for. A vision where transition is viewed through the multi-faceted lens of all that it means through body, mind, heart, and soul. A vision where we are alive, and, not just surviving—we are thriving. A vision where I— we— do not have to solely imagine this vision, because we are within it.

Come, share your vision with me. Are you exploring a fantastical city in the sky? Are you looking for a long-lost prince? Are you euphoric at church because you took your first estrogen pill, and your community is coming together to celebrate you? What would your top surgery look like if you lived in a more technologically advanced world? From a “what would the world look like” to a “what would I wear”, from anything to everything you can think of: come share your vision with me.

We’ll find that when together.

A student-initiated project made possible through the Carl H. Hitchner ’62 Endowed Fellowship for Social Justice at Susquehanna University, transfuture was created, coded, thought up, and dreamed about by Crab Saylor Hochsprung-Cottrell. Visuals were drawn by Kayla "Cricket" Nguyen. Support for this project was numerous and came from many springs, and I am so very thankful to all of you who contributed via listening, suggesting, supporting, and holding space for the creation of transfuture. I also want to thank those of you who will create, write, submit, and tell of transfuture to those who need it. You are always seen by me, and you will never be alone.

Thank you.
